Get more FREE SPACE for your blog

The previous post discussed your account's FREE space and your account's Picasa.   With that in mind, here is how to increase your FREE space if necessary without paying a monthly fee.

You may find it easier to print this post before actually completing the steps.  It is not difficult.  Just take your time, and relax!
  1. Open a New Account.  (Go through the same process you went through to open your original account.  When setting up your new account, remember to use the same "post name" as in your original account if you want that name to be consistant in your blog.)
  2. Send a quick email from your New Account to your Original Account.
  3. Log out of New Account.
  4. Open your Original Account.
  5. In your gmail, add New Account to your contacts.  Go to Blogger Dashboard in your Original Account, and follow these steps:
  6. Original Account==> your blog in Blogger==> Settings==> Basic==> Permissions==> Add Authors==> Invite your New Account using Choose From Contacts==> Send
  7. Log out of Old Account.
  8. Log into New Account gmail and accept invitation to author your blog.
  9. Log out of New Account.
  10. Log into Original Account.  Follow the same steps to get to your blog's "Permissions" as detailed above.  You will see your New Account listed as "Author".
  11. Click the drop down Button and make your New Account "ADMIN".
That's all you have to do, and you can continue adding additional New Accounts, as Brent did, using the same procedure.  Each New Account comes with a new Picasa so now you get to keep your blog and can start filling up your new Picasa albums (as discussed in the previous post)!

By the way, if Google closes your original account, you can still continue to blog using your New Account.  If you have backed up your blog every time you make a change to it as Brent always tell you to do, you will never lose access to all the work you did in your blog.  If you did not back up, kiss your original images good-bye!!  I would suggest opening another New Account to make up for the account Google closed.  Always have at least two account linked to the same blog.

Questions, problems, help, let us know and we will answer, resolve, clarify and/or help you in anyway we can.

Keep on Bloggin'

Google/Blogger FREE SPACE explained

Have you reached your FREE capacity of 1,024 MB on your blog?  Is Google about to charge you a monthly fee to continue blogging?  Are you pissed?  Read on and learn how to continue blogging for FREE!

On Sept 22nd,  Brent did a posting directed at this very issue.  If you missed it, CLICK HERE to read itI

We believe you should understand as much as possible.  This puts you in a better position to work around certain problems.  In order to work around the "pay as you blog" issue, it helps to understand what this FREE SPACE actually is.

Take your time as you read this, and relax - nothing you do as a result of this post will damage your blog in any way!

Google FREE space and Picasa
Each Account comes with 1,024 MB of FREE SPACE.  This FREE SPACE is in your Picasa.  Picasa is where your images are stored.  You have Picasa if you have a Google/Blogger blog!  Everytime you upload an image to your blog, Google automatically stores that image in Picasa.  Even if you delete an image from your blog, it is still in your Account's Picasa.  When your account's Picasa reaches 1,024 MB, you will be notified that now you have to "pay as you go".

If you have never looked at your Picasa albums, this is very important!  Follow these instructions and see what is in them:

Log into Blogger ==> from dashboard ==> click drop down option next to your name ==> Account Settings ==> Products ==> Picasa

These are your Picasa Web Albums.  Depending on the number of blogs and the number of images you have uploaded, you may have one or several albums.  If you've never been here, take a look around.  The images will be familiar because they are the images you inserted into your blog!

Try the following experiment: (absolutely NOTHING will happen to your computer or to your blog):

Click and drag the following image, entitled Picasa experiment.jpeg, to your screen:

Open your blog ==> from dashboard ==>choose New Post ==> click Insert Image button ==> choose Picasa experiment.jpeg ==> click SAVE

Return to Picasa , refresh the page, and you will find the above image in Picasa.

Now, return to your blog and DELETE the saved post with the above image.  The saved post and the image are all gone, right?

Finally, return to Picasa.  Behold!  The image is still there!  The only way to delete it is directly from your Picasa album.

So what is this experiment telling you?

  • Every image you upload to your blog, using the blog's "insert image" button, will go directly to your account's Picasa.
  • Every image you upload counts against your FREE SPACE.
  • Every image you delete from your blog remains in your account's Picasa.
  • You cannot create more FREE SPACE by deleting former posts, because the images remain in your account's Picasa!
Starting to get the picture of how this FREE SPACE works?

The only way to reduce your Google account's FREE SPACE capacity is to directly delete images from your Picasa albums, and if you do that, the image will no longer appear in your blog.

So what do you do if you have maxed out your FREE SPACE and you don't want to delete any previous posts?  You can either start paying Google for the extra space
OR
you can read my next post.

Questions, problems, changes?  Let us know and we will be happy to help you as best we can!

BRENT: My Extraordinary Co-Author

Two years and three days ago, but who's counting, Brent offered his help after I blogged about my discouragement with this blog.  Brent has his own fantastic blog, Brent's Male Wallpapers II - Reborn, which you absolutely MUST see!  In spite of all the time and effort he puts into his own blog, he offered to help me with this rather boring site consisting of a long list of gay content Google blogs which had been locked or deleted by Google and the few blogs which re-opened.  At the time this blog had 13 followers.

Brent, who has such an amazingly creative eye, transformed this blog into what it is today.  Because of Brent, we offer more help, we provide more news worthy information, we exchange links, we post The Counter of Shame, we produce quarterly reports, we list an in-blog button to directly notify us of a status change.  Brent brought all of these changes, and more, to an otherwise rather dry blog.

Brent is a fighter who wouldn't back down from attacks launched by another blog owner who tried to discredit our blog and take us down.  Well, we're still here to bring you our Oh-So-Fabulous Blog and ended up with a home made video which is a hoot-and-a-half to watch.

Brent took this blog from 13 to 700+ followers; 1,000 hits a week to 2,000+ a DAY; and a visual joy to read.

I will always be grateful to Brent for his creativity, tech knowledge, time, and effort.  We have become true blogging Buddies as a result of this joint effort.

Thanks, Brent!  We make a great team!

And, Dear Viewer, we do it all for YOU!

BACK UP or Lose It!

This could happen to YOU!

Your blog has been deleted by Google.
You post in the Help Forum under Something Is Broken.
In response, you are given the Spam Appeal Guidelines which require you to: a) "read the Guidelines", and b) “objectively  tell us whether any of the examples [types of blogs Google deletes] might be relevant to your blog.”
You write back stating what they asked for.
You get a reply stating your request has been “forwarded to Blogger Support, on your behalf.”
You ask how long this will take.
3-5 business days, is the reply.
In 5 days you write that you have heard nothing.
You are told that Blogger Support is extremely busy, and you might want to give them another week or so.
A MONTH after Google deleted your account, you write back to say you have heard nothing and your account is still deleted.
You are told that your problem will be "expedited".

And FINALLY, you are told one of two things:

 1) Your account has been re-opened and we are ever so very, very sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you, it must have been a false positive, Or,
      2) Your blog has been found to be a spam blog, your account will not be re-opened, we will not give you any details, there is nothing more we will do for you, and you should be banished from the internet forever, you spammer!

This happens to Blog Owners everyday!  Don’t believe me?  Read the "Something is Broken" section of the Google Help Forums and see for yourself!

NOW are you going to start backing up your blog?

Does Google Hate Your Browser?

Unable to back-up your blog?  This post is for YOU!

Once upon a time, Google allowed your web browser to back-up your blog.  About a year ago, if memory serves me right, Google decided it wasn't going to be so friendly.  Sudden you were unable to back-up your blog.  Let me explain.

A WEB BROWSER is the program designed to allow the user (YOU) to access, retrieve, and view (browse) the information on the web. There are many browsers and your computer came with at least one of them:
Five web browsers are: Google Chrome, Opera, Internet Explorer (IE), Firefox and Safari (Mac). So basically your browser is the program which allows you to do what you do when you go on the net.  That's simple, right?

You can have as many web browsers as you want!  You are not stuck with the browser currently on your computer.  But first you must download them.

Yes, I used that dreaded word:  DOWNLOAD! Stop sweating and take a deep breath. Downloading need not create total panic in your life, if you download wisely!  So just relax and read on.  Basically, DOWNLOADING is taking information (data) from another place and putting it in your computer.

You got this far because you were NOT able to back-up your blog, remember?  All this means is that your current BROWSER was not able to DOWNLOAD your blog.  No big deal.  All you need is another browser which CAN download your blog!!

Google Chrome  and/or Firefox are two good browsers which will solve your problem.  Once downloaded, all you need to do is click the browser's logo button and that browser will open for you.
Chrome logo Firefox logo

I have a Mac which comes with Safari browser. Google no longer allows Safari to back-up my blog.  I downloaded Google Chrome when my browser was given the shaft.  I use Chrome when I make any changes to my blog, because Chrome can back-up my blog.  Starting to get the picture?

So, download Chrome or Firefox to back-up your blog.  They are both FREE and reliable.

To download Chrome, click here

To download Firefox, click here

After you have downloaded your additional browser, log out of your blog if you are in it. Open your new browser and log back into your blog.   You will now be able to back-up your precious blog by following these steps:

Open your blog ==>Design ==>Settings ==>Other ==>Blog Tools Export Blog

If you have any questions or problems, please let us know and we will be happy to help you.

If you downloaded an additional browser after reading this article, we would like to hear how it worked for you.
Is there something I should add, change or delete from the instructions above?  Let me know.
I really want your feedback, positive or negative.

NOW BACK UP YOUR BLOG!!!

Keep on Bloggin'

Google Blog could equal tears!

Google doesn't just shut down Gay content blogs.  All sorts of blogs get closed down on a regular basis.  Here is a report by Christiane Browne which appeared on May 13, 2012 in Breitbart.
"The New York Conservative was a blog hosted by Google Blogger. I started the blog in February of this year and had posted 17 columns prior to the KSM entry, commenting on political matters and issues affecting the Catholic Church. I would post my entries on Facebook and occasionally would email a link to friends or other interested parties. I received no complaints about the blog whatsoever.
On Monday, the pro-U.S. security group Secure American Now posted a link to my KSM piece on its website. The link received numerous hits and generated multiple comments on the Secure America Now page.
However, a few hours after Secure America Now linked to the New York Conservative, I received a form email, no reply possible, from Google Blogger informing me that the New York Conservative had been deleted. The email classified my blog as “spam” in violation of Google’s terms of service. There was no further explanation. My URL was dead; all of the content, everything I ever posted, was gone.
I made two telephone calls to Google to protest and demand a reason for the deletion of my blog. The Google representatives told me that Google does not provide “live support” for Google Blogger, meaning you cannot speak with anyone at all about the deletion. The representatives directed me to the Google Blogger website, where the company extols its commitment to free speech and its great reluctance to censor its bloggers.
Obviously, I do not know why Google deleted my blog, but it's awfully odd that The New York Conservative was summarily executed after a post in which I called for the summary execution of KSM.
Given the company’s self-proclaimed devotion to free speech, I think Google ought to explain why it deleted the blog."

(The entire article may be read by clicking here)

With Google Blogger you are always guilty first.  Often you will not know what you are guilty of.  Google will never tell you what you have done.  Google will never give you a chance to change your blog, because they won't tell you what needs to be changed.
If you consider your blog precious, if you have put effort and time into your blog, if you don't want to lose everything you trusted Google, Blogger, Blogspot with, BACK UP YOUR BLOG!!!
Open your blog==>Design==>Settings==>Other==>Blog Tools Export Blog

If You Receive An Error Message....Unable To Download....Try A Different Browser Such As FireFox Or Chrome..... :(
If you receive an error message, your browser will not work for this step.  It is simple and free to download Firefox or Google Chrome as your browser, even if just for backing up your blog.

It takes less than 30 seconds once you get used to it.  Do it every day!  Don't give Google the power to make you an empty hulk by discovering your blog has just been deleted.  You owe it to yourself to be pro-active, and you will never regret it!

DOJ Media...in a NUT shell

NEARBY

Last week, by popular demand, I promised to post the history of DOJmedia.com and this blog, but I really hate wasting my time so here is a recap in a NUT shell.

DOJmedia.com first went by the site name of DOJ Media Community.
It's owner was a self-described 31 year old Wonder Woman type using the screen name of BioHazard.  On January 11, 2011,  she left her first comment on this blog.  Brent thought she would be trouble and I didn't.  Brent was right!  I joined her "community" to check things out.  The site's primary concern appeared to be on-line gaming, particularly one game called "Mafia Wars".
Apparently several DOJ Media members were a team and they got attacked by another team headed by a person known as Sexy Sadie.
BioHazard and her band of happy supporters got into a cat fight with Sexy Sadie.  Sexy Sadie won and BioHazard closed down the thread.  I just luv me a cat fight between two females, don't you?

Time passes and a few more comments were left on our blog from DOJmedia.com thanking us for the list of gay blogs, and stating how much easier it now was for her to find these blogs.  Apparently she wants to shut down 200 gay blogs a week by "working closely with Google and NibbleBit".  Is she going to save the world and close down as many gay pornographic blogs as possible?

To make a long story really short, DOJmedia.com mysteriously shut down, again, and re-opened as Digitally Off-Topic Journalism.  In the first post she vowed to destroy us.
Brent and I were terrified.  We had no idea what this Super Woman had in mind but I can assure you that much sleep was lost.  In spite of our terror, we decided to publish her post on our site.  Soon after, her site mysteriously went down again!  Go figure!  Her site going down is becoming a habit.

When her site re-opened for a day she had posted the oh-so-fabulous video which has made us oh-so popular and oh-so famous.  We posted her video and mysteriously her site went down again.  It is such a mystery why her site keeps going down, isn't it?  Anyway, BioHazard started as a 31 year old female but when she re-opened again, she is male!  I sense some confusion.
To her credit, she does give great video, and we can only hope that she continues to make more episodes of her Brent and Jeff Show.  We all oh-so love this show and pray she opens an oh-so new blog devoted to nothing but the oh-so-fabulous and oh-so popular adventures of Brent and Jeff.  Wouldn't y'all just oh-so-love that?

So, in a nut-shell, (and I do emphasize NUT) we have the story of a computer tech who uses a blog of closed blogs (US!) in order to find blogs to close.  Since she has partnered oh-so-closely with the oh-so-legal departments of Google and NibbleBit, she is not oh-so-able to oh-so-discuss her mission in any detail because the information is an oh-so-closely guarded oh-so-TOP oh-so-SECRET!

So there.  I am oh-so-over talking about her.....at least for the oh-so-fabulous moment!

PS: For those of You that may have missed Her original video Posting on Her Web Site or Our Posting Here, here an Encore Presentation for you........ :):)

Thanks everyone for the feedback, I'll take this discussion back to the team and see what we can do to make the feature more flexible.

If you haven't already, providing a detailed explanation of this lightbox is not ideal for your blog will help us understand all the use cases here. Our ears are open!

Cheers,

So, give him a SHOUT.  Go to the following link and let Brett know if and why you don't like the Lightbox effect.  I suggest you all consider telling him to make it optional.  Here is the thread:

Bloggers want to hear from you!

Hug a Blogger...Leave a Comment

We recently heard from a blogger who left Google/Blogger because of the technical problems he was experiencing, but he was also afraid his blog was going to be deleted like so many of the other blogs we have been reporting.

This blogger brought up a great point which we have heard from others, and sometimes experience ourselves:  a lack of comments from viewers.

I know there are many reasons viewers do not leave comments, however, if a blog allows for comments, the blogger wants to hear from you!  If you visit a blog regularly, it is not necessary to leave a comment every time you drop in, but think of saying "HI" once in a while.  We bloggers appreciate hearing from you.  A blogger buddy of mine calls himself a "comment whore".  He just loves comments.  Actually most of us are comment whores, but he is the only one to admit it!

So, dear blog viewers, when the mood is right, give bloggers a hug every once in a while, leave a comment.  It's sure to bring a big smile to all our faces.

Google Top Contributor Thomas P

Check this out.  Google Top Contributors at their best!

This guy, Larry999, makes a non provocative post in the Google Help Forum regarding Google Doodles.  Read down and see what a Top Contributor, sanctioned by Google with special powers, says. He ends up calling Larry999 names.  Only Google Top Contributors can get away with this!

Next June, why not make Gay Pride Flag doodle show on all searches?Report abuse

This year, 2011, the doodle for Gay Pride month, only showed up for a very narrow selection of searches, like "gay", "Homosesual", "Lesbian", etc.  I think the google doodle of the Gay Pride Flag should show up for EVERYsearch throughout the world for the entire month of June.

Can you do that?  Of course you can.  The question is:  Will you do that?

The pride flag, for being seen by everyone, for an entire month ?!? ... stop being so self-centred.
Did you find this answer helpful?

Post a comment and let Thomas P know what you think of the way he treated Larry999.  Here is the thread:  http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Web+Search/thread?fid=1b3b7416aa8080150004a68853c6b971&hl=en

Google hides Gay flag

Happy Pride month, all.

Seems Google is afraid

of us!

Google hides Gay

Pride rainbow

John D. Sutter
If you Google terms like "gay" or "homosexuality" this month, a rainbow pops up by the search bar.

(CNN) -- Google creates "doodles” for
all kinds of random occasions.
The search engine changed -- or doodled --
the logo on its home page in celebration of
the painter Paul Cezanne's 172nd birthday;
Robert Louis Stevenson's 160th birthday;
the first day of school in Poland; and
Pac-Man's 30th anniversary. All of these,
with the exception of Poland, which
appeared only in that country, were
automatically visible to everyone who
visited Google.com.

But for Gay Pride Month -- which, in case
you didn't notice the parade in the city
center, is happening now -- the company
took a much less visible approach.
It's one that's stirred up criticism from
the gay community.
There's never been an actual Google
Doodle in honor of Gay Pride. Instead,
during June, a little rainbow pops up
next to Google's search bar only when
users search for certain "pride-related"
terms, including, "gay," "lesbian,"
"homosexuality," "LGBT,"
"marriage equality," "bisexual" and
"transgender."
"During the month of June, Google is
celebrating lesbian, gay, bisexual and
transgender (LGBT) Pride," the company
said in an e-mail. "For some Pride-related
search queries, we are showing a rainbow
at the end of the search bar."

So why hide this feature beneath specific
searches?
A company spokeswoman did not provide
specifics. (End of CNN story)

Shout out at Google, folks.
Stop being second class citizens!
